You should repent from sin as much as possible. However, no matter how many times you repent verbally – even if it is a hundred thousand times –if it is not done from the heart and if the heart does not confirm it, then such penance has no standing. What can be gained from repentance when one’s heart is not free from jealousy, animosity, artifice and impertinence? When you repent, turn back to God. Your repentance is only considered when your heart is purified and is clean of all worldly problems. For those who repent, God grants ranks equivalent to those of the pious people, if God wills.
As the our spiritual Mater Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) said: “Whoever repents over his transgression, it will be as if he has never committed any sin.” So, we should keep our tongues away from unacceptable conversations, purify our hearts and return to God.
May God accept our repentance and help us walk on this path with perseverance.
